Life Cycles

Today we talked about plant life cycles, and how some plants have short life cycles (one growing season) and some plants have life cycles that last for years (fruit trees). Tomorrow we will be working on a small writing project to explain plant life cycles.

Portfolio Binders

Portfolio binders are coming home today. I wanted to make sure you had a chance to review your child’s fractions exit cards before our test on Friday, as a few of the students need to practice a bit before the test.

Please return the binders by Monday.

Thank-you!

Fractions Test

Your child brought home a pink “Show What You Know” page on Friday. This handout covers all the lessons we’ve learned in our fractions unit. Most students also brought home their finished workbook to share with you. I do not need either of these items returned.

We will be continuing to review the fractions unit for a couple of days, and then we will have our fractions test on either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how the review lessons go in class. Your child should be able to easily go through the questions on the pink handout (even verbally instead of writing the answers down). Please email me if you have any questions or concerns!

Thanks for your support at home!

Fraction Go-Fish

We’ve been working hard at naming fractions, using traditional number symbols (1/2, 3/5), word names (one half, three fifths), and pictures to show fractions.

Today we spent part of our math class playing Fraction Go-Fish! We had lots of fun with this game, and it helped us polish our fraction naming skills!

Portfolios

Portfolio binders came home today. There are several new items inside:

  • multiplication and division exit cards, unit test, and rubric
  • structures and materials exit cards and tower project
  • writing project for our famous structure

Please review the binder and return it by Thursday, so that it doesn’t get lost over the Easter Break 🙂

Thanks!
